The "San Marco" Regiment is used as a naval infantry under the Italian Navy.
Together with the "Serenissima" Lagunari Regiment, under the Italian Army, it constitutes the Projection Force from the Sea.
From its ranks come the special departments of the Underwater and Raiders Command, the amphibious component of the Italian Armed Forces.
Their motto, Per Mare, Per Terram, was also adopted by the Royal Marines. Over the decades, the men of San Marco, called "marò"
also by its members and in a very widespread way (even if for some this term has not exactly laudative origins),
they were from time to time organized as a Battalion, Regiment or Brigade. Today he is part of the Navy Landing Force,
together with the "Carlotto" Regiment, with which it shares part of its history.
